USC Black Alumni Association (BAA) will host its 47th Annual Scholarship Gala on Friday, March 31, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, located at 4375 Admiralty Way in Marina Del Rey.
This year’s honorees include Los Angeles Lakers Vice President Kiesha Nix, who will receive the Reverend Thomas Kilgore, Jr. Service Award; Daniel Prince, who will be presented with the Outstanding Black Alumni Award; and Miki Turner, who will be the recipient of the Barbara Solomon Staff and Faculty Award.
Founded in 1976 by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Kilgore, Jr., the USC Black Alumni Association (BAA) is a leadership network established to strengthen the legacy of educational attainment and excellence of USC’s Black students. The BAA provides scholarship assistance, career mentoring and cultural advocacy through alumni networking, volunteer involvement, philanthropy and social enterprise.
The USC BAA aims to enable the most ethnically diverse and inclusive experience for USC students, alumni and supporters through leadership, networking, and shared values, as well as to honor the rich legacy, contributions, and participation of Black Trojans in the university and alumni communities.
This year’s USC BAA gala will also be the inaugural dinner for the organization’s new executive director, Mrs. Jasmine Taylor, who started in the position on February 13. Taylor is a USC Class of 1999 graduate. A native of Compton, she returns to the University of Southern California after enjoying a 20+-year career of service, education and nonprofit leadership.
