West Los Angeles College sophomore linebacker Kendall Hill competes and studies on a high level. Since his time at Dorsey high school, he has devoted himself to having a strong work ethic in all his endeavors. He noted how being committed to football is an important factor.
“The key basis to be successful is still the same three: consistency, dedication, and sometimes compromise,” Hill said. “We had to compromise a lot, due to the COVID thing and for everybody to still stay in every day, come in every day, dedicate themselves, consistency.”
During the 2021-22 season, he led the Wildcats with 32 solo, 23 assisted, and 55 total tackles. In their 42-19 victory over Santa Monica, he made a season-high of six assisted tackles. West LA head coach Marguet Miller praised his positive attitude and his maturity.
“He watched a lot of game film,” Miller said. “He always has good suggestions on how to attack the opponent, it’s like having another coach around.”
Hill has earned his associate degree in business administration and finance. He maintained his efforts in his athletics and academics with zeal. He has been on the honor roll every semester during his time at West L.A. College.
“I’m not gonna say it wasn’t that hard, but I just put my head down and just focused at it during the whole pandemic 2020, I just stayed in the books,” Hill said. “I’m just trying to focus on football and make it easy on myself.”
When he was a senior at Dorsey High School, Hill had the highest GPA on the team. His efforts earned him honors from The Great American Rivalry Series during Dorsey’s game against Crenshaw in 2018.
Along with having high intellect in the classroom, Hill also has a high football IQ. Miller noticed his ability to hustle on the field back when Hill was playing for the Dons.
“When I saw him play in high school, I said “This guy is a good athlete that hustles well,”” Miller said. “That means he had a high motor, so I thought he was a very good athlete and a good football player.”
The West LA college football team only had six sophomore players including Hill during the 2021-22 season. He used his actions to mentor the young team.
“His leadership was good, he led by example, he led verbally,” Miller said. “He did a good job in helping us keep the team intact even though we were young, and a lot of players were going through college football for the first time.”
Hill is content with wherever his talents and skills in football lead him. He also desires to pursue a career in finance.
“I love football, but I don’t stress on it too much because it’s meant to be fun. I’ll just let the play take care of itself,” Hill said. “In terms of school, I’ll still try to get my bachelor’s and try and work on my CPA.”
