Los Angeles City College was awarded $45,000 in grants by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to support cinema/television students.
“This generous gift from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is so generous and comes at a time when our students need it most,” LACC President Mary Gallagher said in a statement. “These grants will continue to provide resources that our students need in order to successfully compete in
the film and television industry.”
A $25,000 grant will establish fellowships for diverse, full-time students who demonstrate financial need, and international students with a different point of view and voice, according to the college. The HFPA
fellowships cover tuition, books, living expenses and filmmaking supplies.
A second grant for $20,000 will fund students showcasing diverse talent and voices in entertainment. The Filmmakers Production Mini-Grants Program will support advanced LACC Cinema/Television students working on short films and documentaries for their portfolio and entry into film departments at
four-year colleges.
Students can apply for grants up to $1,000 to cover equipment rentals, and crew and actor payments.
To date, HFPA has awarded $2,435,000 to LACC.
