On Wednesday, Jul. 30, actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish joined Los Angeles Councilmember Herb Wesson and Sentinel columnist and political strategist Jasmyne Cannick in handing out over 700 laptops to students in the L.A. County foster system.
Both Haddish, 40 and Cannick, 42, spent time during their youth in the foster care system in Los Angeles in the 90s. Cannick was joined by her social worker from when she was in the foster care system between 1990 and 1996 Gina Prophet who today is a supervisor in the Palmdale Department of Children and Family Services.
The computers given away were a donation from Wesson’s OurCycleLA project which is a digital inclusion program designed to bridge the digital divide in low-income households in Los Angeles and other marginalized communities.
