Small was born in Greenville, MS to James and Hattie Belle Small. Small was the eldest of nine children born to this union. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Joyce and Eddie Jean, brothers Carl and Robert, and his daughter Kynice.
After graduating from David Starr Jordan High School in Los Angeles, he joined the U.S. Navy. He became a resident of Chino Hills in 1977.
Small began employment with the State of California as a counselor and later transferred to Herman G Stark as a teacher. Small retired from his position in the year 2000.
Those left to celebrate and cherish his memory include his wife of 35 years, Carolyn, daughters Rasheda, Carroll, and Nicole Small, sisters Bembeleza and Zandra Boddie, brother Chris (and Susan) Small, Donnie (and Angela) Small, Tim (and Gwen) Small Morris Taylor, two grandchildren names Josephine and DJ, and many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by family and friends.
