Leroy Brown was recently recognized by the U.S. Postal Service for achieving 70 years of federal service, which includes two years of military and 68 years of postal service.

Brown began his journey into federal service in 1953, when he entered the US Army at 18 years old. After serving for two years in France (1953-1955), he left the military and entered the Post Office Department (which the Postal Service was called at that time) in late 1955, where he remains as a clerk at the Los Angeles International Service Center (ISC).

Brown reached his 70th year of federal service in 2023. In honor of this milestone achievement, the Postal Service recognized Brown for his years of dedicated government service with a surprise luncheon, on November 2.

The Postmaster General’s office presented Brown was a certificate and specially made service coin which features the current Postal Service logo on one side and the Post Office Department logo on the other side.

Felipe Flores, senior director of Division Processing Operations, also presented Brown with a commemorative coin on behalf of the Western Division Processing Operations team for his excellence in the performance of his duties.

Surrounded by family, friends and his postal family, Brown was surprised and a little overwhelmed but happy for the celebration.

“It feels really nice to see so many of my friends who have retired and have come to see me today,” said Brown, “they came to celebrate with me, and I thank them for that.”

At 90 years old, Brown doesn’t have any dates lined up for retirement. When asked what’s his secret for longevity in life and at work, Brown replied, “Going to work keeps me busy and lively, I like being around the people I work with. I also try to eat good and, I walk in and outside of work to try to keep myself active.”
