One thing Taste of Soul never has a shortage of is dessert—ice cream, snowcones, pies, cakes, you name it and it’s probably at this festival. Meet Detra Charlot, the owner of Frozencandyland and she is bringing a sweet treat that is guilt free.
“Taste of Soul has been one of the biggest goals that Frozencandyland set out to reach, and we’re here,” said Charlot.
The mother of two and grandmother of three, is an L.A. native and has been employed with the United States Postal Service for 10 years. She was previously a mail carrier and currently works as a mail clerk at a customer care center. It was at a family function that Charlot would birth what would become Frozencandyland.
“One Sunday Funday, I mixed drinks for the family,” said Charlot. “They fell in love with the drinks and encouraged me to sell them.”
She continued, “At the time, I needed $4,000 to send my daughter to Ghana for an Internship, so I decided to give it a try.
“The first day of sales, I made a little over $1,000 [and] with so many compliments, requests and success, I continued selling them from home—eventually making it an ongoing business.”
Frozencandyland was established in April 2014 and has become a catering service for parties for both kids and adults.
Frozencandyland specializes in making blended drinks with candy on top. There’s one thing about Charlot’s drinks many customers can feel good about.
“Unlike many frozen drinks, Frozencandyland is blended with sugar free products not containing high fructose corn syrup,” said Charlot.

“We are vendors for community events and do fundraisers for schools and organizations,” said Charlot.
