The Rev. James Andrew Brooks II will take the helm as the new pastor of St. John Baptist Church. His wife, First Lady Felicia Brooks, will join him in the ministry.

The installation service is set for Sunday, March 31, at 3:30 p.m., in the sanctuary located at 936 W. 49th St., in Los Angeles. The theme of the service is “Glorify God Among the People, So That the People May Glorify God.”

Inviting the public to attend, Deacon Board Chair James Daniels and Installation Committee Chair Gary Brooks said the Rev. Dr. Ricardo Bartlett, pastor of Greater New Zion Baptist Church, will preside over the program.

Pastor-elect Brooks follows in the steps of his grandfather as the spiritual leader of St. John. The late Rev. James Brooks served 65 years as pastor before his passing in 2017 at age 105.

However, the pastor-elect is well prepared to assume leadership. Accepting his call to the ministry in 2013, Brooks was ordained in 2016 and elected pastor in Nov. 2018.   He has always been actively involved at St. John, serving as pianist, drummer, youth leader, Sunday School teacher and in other ministries.

A graduate of Duke University, the pastor-elect is currently pursuing his Master’s of Divinity degree at Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology.

Humbly reflecting on his new position, Brooks said, “I am simply as a child of God. My desire is that all people come to know and love God, for Him to renew their minds and cleanse their hearts, and to go spread the good news about our crucified, buried and risen Christ.”
