Several local organizations will offer free meals and groceries to individuals and families needing assistance during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Councilwoman Heather Hutt will distribute 700+ turkeys to Council District 10 constituents on Friday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Michelle & Barack Obama Sports Complex, 5001 Obama Blvd., in Los Angeles. Event co-sponsors include Mothers In Action and Community Build.

Brotherhood Crusade will sponsor their Thanksgiving Grab and Go Basket Distribution on Friday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Algin Sutton Recreation Center, located at 8800 S. Hoover Street, in Los Angeles.

The free, drive-thru event will provide food baskets containing a whole turkey, vegetables, dressing, cake mix, frosting and more on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies are exhausted.  Also, the event will include gift card giveaways.  For more information, call (323) 846-1649.

Bobbi Kristina Serenity House and Simply Wholesome Restaurant will provide 100 families with the ingredients for a holiday meal as part of the 2nd Annual Feed the Family Thanksgiving Event on Tuesday, Nov. 21.  To register for the event, email [email protected].

The BKSH nonprofit, founded by entertainer Bobby Brown, provides support, shelter, and resources for survivors of domestic violence. Simply Wholesome is a community-focused health restaurant and store that offers organic, natural foods and products.

PVJOBS (Playa Vista Job Opportunities and Business Services) will distribute 700+ turkeys to low-income families on a first-come, first-serve basis on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m., at 4112 S. Main St., in Los Angeles.  The event sponsors include Hensel Phelps, PVJOBS, Home Street Bank, and Power 106 FM, who will provide a live broadcast of the event.

“As we continue to serve local community members who are in need of employment opportunities, we are also in service to our neighboring residents who seek our support as well,” said PVJOBS Executive Director Mary Taylor. “We’re holding our Thanksgiving giveaway event for a twelfth consecutive year to demonstrate that PVJOBS is here to support all of our neighbors in need.”

PVJOBS is a nonprofit that provides job training and employment opportunities to at-risk youth, adults and veterans.

Mothers In Action will sponsor their 28th Annual Thanksgiving Day Senior Feed on Thursday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers will provide meals to seniors and homebound people.

Each year, the nonprofit collaborates with Ward Economic Development Corporation to distribute Thanksgiving Day meals to more than 1,000 people.  To donate, volunteer or learn more, call (323) 290-0456.

Founded in 1992 to improve the quality of life for South L.A. families, Mothers In Action also  hosts Angel Tree Christmas Project providing toys and gift cards to more than 500 young people as well as financial literacy training, job placement and referral information.

In addition, scores of young ladies, from ages 10 to 14, participate in the MIA mentoring program which includes classes in hygiene, etiquette, self-esteem building, cooking, community service activities, entrepreneurship, anti-bullying, self – care, and goal setting.
