The start of the fall 2018 semester at Compton College is just around the corner and there are plenty of classes available! Recent high school graduates, new and returning students are all encouraged to complete the Steps to Enrollment and register online immediately to ensure they secure the classes they need to meet their academic and career goals.

“I am the first person in my family to attend college, and when I started out, I didn’t really know how to navigate the whole process of going to college,” said Jovanny Orozco, who graduated from Narbonne High School. “Compton College counselors and staff helped me every step of the way and gave me great advice on everything from selecting a major to helping to build my educational plan and offering guidance on how to stay on my path.” Orozco plans to graduate from Compton College with an associate degree and transfer to a four-year university to major in business administration.

Compton College offers 31 different degree programs for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university. In addition, there are 11 different Career and Technical Education programs, including a new cosmetology program. These job training programs are designed for students, veterans, and working adults looking to start a new career or upgrade their skill sets. Training is offered to help students prepare and find good-paying jobs in many high-demand industries that require specific skills. Saturday, evening and online classes are also available to accommodate any schedule.

“I see a lot of students wait until the last minute to begin the enrollment process,” said Keith Curry, president of Compton College. “My recommendation is to not put off what you can easily do right now. Students who complete the steps to enrollment and register for classes in a timely fashion will get the classes they need to stay on track to graduate on time.”

The Welcome Center in Room D-27 is open to assist students with the online application process. Computers are available and student ambassadors are on hand to answer questions. Welcome Center hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; the Welcome Center is closed on Fridays. Contact the Welcome Center at 310-900-1600, ext. 2765.
