Celebration is in the air at Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church as the ministry gets set to will observe their 68th Church Anniversary.
The milestone event is set for Sunday, June 24, at the 8 a.m., 11 a.m., and 4 p.m., worship services. The theme is “A Blessed Church: One Body in Christ, Working together in Faith and Love.” The scripture references are I Corinthians 12:12-18 and I John 4:6-8.
“We anticipate a marvelous worship experience and invite the greater Los Angeles community to come and share with us on this momentous occasion,” said Pastor DeNon A. Porter.
The 8 a.m. theme speaker will be Brother Naseer Sims, a member of the Junior Ushers ministry. The 11 a.m. theme speaker will be Deacon Carl Charles, past chairman of the Deacon Board and current member of the Deacon and Trustee ministries.
The 4 p.m. service will feature Pastor Darryl Beard and Mount Carmel Holy Assembly Baptist Church. “We have longstanding relationship with Pastor Porter and Pastor Emeritus Solomon Drake,” said Beard, who will deliver the sermon. “I am a member of Greater Ebenezer and I always look forward to returning to my home church.” The theme speaker will be Sister Seminolia Lamar, director of the Children and Youth Choir.
Since its founding, Greater Ebenezer has had three spiritual leaders – Pastor Alzo W. Lott (1950 – 1982), Pastor Solomon L. Drake, pastor emeritus (1982 – 2016), and Pastor Porter (2016 – present).
Pastor Porter added, “Come in unity and come in praise for 68 years of preaching, teaching, and standing on the promises of God. God has blessed Greater Ebenezer with over 40 ministries to spread God’s word, share God’s word, and minister God’s word.”
