Los Angeles lost a giant in the faith with the passing of the Rev. Dr. Solomon L. Drake, pastor emeritus of Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Drake, who died on August 18 at the age of 90, was a spiritual father and mentor to scores of leading ministers. His body will lie in state on Tuesday, August 31, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Wednesday, September 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., in the sanctuary of Greater Ebenezer, 5300 Denker Avenue in Los Angeles. Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church plans its 16th Annual Men’s Conference starting Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18, on its campus located at 5300 S. Denker Ave., in Los Angeles. According to Pastor DeNon A. Porter, several activities are planned to illustrate the theme, “Brothers United Under Divine Direction” based on Psalm 133:1-3 and Ephesian 4:1-7. “Our conference will open on Friday evening with registration at 6 p.m., followed by praise, prayer and the spoken word. On Saturday, May 18th at 9 a.m., we will participate in Bible study, workshops and exciting theme speakers who will focus on issues and concerns to men
The members of Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church will host the 2nd Pastoral Anniversary of the Rev. DeNon and First Lady Michelle Porter on Sunday, August 26, at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The celebration services will take place in the church’s edifice at 5300 S. Denker Ave., in Los Angeles. Celebration is in the air at Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church as the ministry gets set to will observe their 68th Church Anniversary. The milestone event is set for Sunday, June 24, at the 8 a.m., 11 a.m., and 4 p.m., worship services. The theme is “A Blessed Church: One Body in Christ, Working together in Faith and Love.” The scripture references are I Corinthians 12:12-18 and I John 4:6-8. “We anticipate a marvelous worship experience and invite the greater Los Angeles community to come and share with us on this momentous occasion,” said Pastor DeNon A.
