The excitement is building as the New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church congregation prepares to mark their 55th anniversary.
The observance will be held on Sunday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m., and recognition of new members at 10:45 a.m. At 3:30 p.m., the grand celebration features preaching by Pastor Larry Weaver of Atherton Baptist Church.
Also, Pastor J. Benjamin Hardwick of Praises of Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Marcus Murchinson of Tree of Life Baptist Church, and Pastor David E. Cross of Greater Page Temple Church of God in Christ will participate.
“We invite greater Los Angeles to celebrate with us with anointed praise, worship, words of inspiration, and a special historical unveiling. Truly, this will be a day to remember,” said Pastor Sonja R. Dawson.
New Mt. Calvary will continue to celebrate during their Resurrection Weekend 2018. Events begin on Thursday, March 29, at 7 p.m., with the Maundy Thursday and Communion Worship Experience. The service, centered around the theme, “Women at the Cross,” will feature preaching and teaching by Dawson, Evangelist Barbara Bryant, Pastor Najuma Smith Pollard, Pastor LaTanya Blake Allen and Pastor Doretha Cooper.
“The 7 Last Words of Jesus Christ on the Cross” will be presented at the Good Friday Service on Friday, March 30, at 12 p.m.
“With great passion for Jesus Christ, the associate ministers of New Mt. Calvary will present the meaning and purpose of Jesus seven last words. If you have not attended this service, you have truly missed a treat,” said Dawson.
On Saturday, March 31, the Annual Easter Fun Fest takes place for children from pre-school through sixth grade. Activities include an Easter Egg Hunt, arts and crafts, and a variety of games.
Resurrection Sunday services will be held on April 1, at 5:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. “Our celebration enters into a new dimension as we celebrate life more abundantly because of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” noted Dawson.
