Taste of Soul (TOS) has gone 12 years without incident and since 2013, Glenna Wilson has had a part in keeping things that way.
“I have been bringing free Bibles, Daily Word and I have a prayer booth which is called Prayer Corner Ministries,” said Wilson.
Wilson is a retired registered nurse having worked for the Department of Public Health for the county of Los Angeles. She worked for the county for 16 years as an investigator and health facility evaluator. Wilson’s job was to evaluate the level and patient care, rights and the quality of life according to the state, federal and local laws. Now she is bringing the Word to TOS and offering prayers for those who want it.
“I pray for the people that come by that want prayer,” said Wilson. “Some of them have prayer request and so I give them little stickies and they put it into the empty 5-gallon Sparkletts water bottles.”
Wilson continued, “I pray on those prayer request in my home every day and I’ve had many, many people come back and tell me testimonies about how God has healed them or did miraculous things in their lives.”
She was drawn to set up a booth at TOS 2013 because she wanted to make a difference on a personal and human level. Wilson wanted to share the good news of Jesus Christ with attendees at the festival. She understands that life can be hard and uncertain and wanted to let others know that there is an answer.
“Oftentimes people go through so many things where they’re hurting and they cannot utter a prayer,” said Wilson. “They need someone to pray for them that has the compassion to pray for them.
“I’ve been hurt myself where I couldn’t pray—I just couldn’t pray, I couldn’t pray and I couldn’t ask anyone to pray for me.
“Our community is a trauma experience community and people need hope.”
Wilson funds the items she gives away and has given away up to 2,000 Bibles at every TOS. She schools anyone who comes by her booth on Bible 101. Wilson gets attendees familiar with the books of the Bible and gives different scriptures for reading according to life’s many situations. She also has Christian children’s books for kids, who come by her booth. Wilson’s goal is to get 2,000 Bibles to give away this year to hungry souls who want to know more than their own way. She especially hopes to encourage young men at TOS and put a Bible in their hands.
“All the young men, no matter who they are, especially African American men—they want God to protect them,” said Wilson
Wilson had been bringing the Lord to TOS with her for five years and she plans to keep on doing that for as long God permits. She shared that she has been making sure TOS stays a safe festival by praying over it every year. She loves brining the Lord to TOS and giving people hope.
“This is my job,” said Wilson. “I’m retired as a nurse but I still minister.”
