Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa added his name to a growing list of local mayors supporting the re-election of Compton Mayor Aja Brown.
Speaking Saturday at a campaign rally for Brown in Compton, Villaraigosa said, “Aja Brown understands that the job of a leader is to bring people together—it’s to improve the quality of life of people in her community. She’s worked to bring supermarkets to Compton. She’s worked to bring entertainment and movie cinemas here to Compton. She’s worked to make sure that Compton is a place where more people are enjoying a better quality of life.”
Villaraigosa joins mayors from Long Beach, Gardena, Carson, Lynwood and Inglewood in supporting the re-election of Aja Brown as Mayor of Compton.
“Mayor Villaraigosa has always worked to build coalitions across various communities, issues and cities,” said Mayor Brown. “I’m honored to have his support for my re-election campaign. I look forward to working with him in the future on ways to continue the progress here in Compton.”
At 31, Aja L. Brown made history as Compton’s youngest elected Mayor in 2013. A national trailblazer, Mayor Brown’s New Vision for Compton platform is a revitalization strategy centered on12-key principles that focus on family values, quality of life, economic development and infrastructural growth.
The primary for the Compton mayor’s race will be held on April 18.
