Governor Signs Bradford Bill on Insurance Diversity

Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB 534, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena). This bill expands current definitions in California’s Insurance Diversity Survey to include LGBT- and veteran-owned businesses. The bill also adds the Insurance Diversity Task Force and Governing Board Diversity Survey into California law ensuring valuable data will continue to be collected.

Senator Bradford Approves California State Budget -Securing Millions for Senate District 35

Recently, the Budget Bill for fiscal year 2019-2020 was passed by the Senate and Assembly after long negotiations between both houses and the Governor’s Administration. The new budget includes the state’s largest reserves in history, pays down billions of dollars to our state’s pension debt, and prioritizes one-time investments aimed at tackling the main issues driving California’s affordability crisis.

Bill to Help Inglewood Revitalization Project and LA Clippers Arena on its way to Governor Brown 

Late Friday evening, Assembly Bill 987, authored by Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove and Senator Steven Bradford, was approved by both houses of the Legislature with overwhelming support and awaits the Governor’s final approval to be signed into law. 

Assemblymember Shirley N. Weber, PhD Elected as Caucus Chair

The California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC) is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Shirley N. Weber (AD 79) as the incoming Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus. Assemblymember Weber has been a champion for education and civil rights.  This year, Dr. Weber authored two Caucus priority bills Assembly Bill 2635 regarding properly funding underperforming students, and Assembly Bill 931 which seeks to improve public safety through changing law enforcement’s use of force policies.
