Council Shutdown Occurs After Disgraced Council Members Won’t Resign

Last week, a recording anonymously posted on the social media site Reddit rocked the Los Angeles City Council.  On the recording, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Hererra, City Council President Nury Martinez (District 6), and City Council members Kevin de León (District 14) and Gilbert Cedillo (District 1) can be heard discussing redistricting using crass terms and divisive, racist language.

LA Metro Board Approves Free Transit Pilot Program for Students

K-12 students and community college students in Los Angeles County will be able to ride Metro for free under a 23-month pilot program approved by the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors today. Metro currently offers fare discounts to people who make $39,450 a year or less, people age 62 and older, veterans and people with disabilities, K- 12 students and people in college or vocational school.
