Los Angeles County Supervisors Janice Hahn and Sheila Kuehl recommended creating a permanent Youth Advisory Body to give young people a voice in the creation and implementation of County policy matters that impact them.
For the 26th year, the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce (GLAAACC) recognized individuals and corporations that championed the organization’s mission to “advocate and promote the economic growth and development of African American business.”
The awards ceremony pays tribute to individuals, small businesses and corporations who have contributed to the economic growth and development of the African American small business community.
In response to Federal investigations of the poor conditions within LA County Jails, and the increase of imprisoned people with mental illnesses which has now reached 70 percent of the jail population, Supervisors of LA County planned to vote February 12th on a new “Mental Health Jail,” formally known as the “Consolidated Correctional Treatment Facility,” instead of diverting people who shouldn’t be in jail in the first place.
In celebration of Black History Month, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas presented a scroll to the Reverend Dr. Alexander Hamilton, who arranged the late Aretha Franklin’s Grammy-Award winning gospel album Amazing Grace, among many other stellar musical achievements.
Supervisor Hahn will be a progressive voice on the board charged with regulating air pollution across the region.
This week, Supervisor Janice Hahn assumed the Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The chair is a rotating role and Supervisor Hahn will hold the position for one year. Supervisor Kathryn Barger became the Board’s Chair Pro Tem

The Los Angeles Sentinel/ L.A. Watts Times this week announced they are endorsing Congresswoman Janice Hahn, who is now running for Los Angeles County Supervisor over the 4th district. The endorsement has been added to more than 700 that she has received so far. Those include Labor Union, AFL –CIO, Long Beach Firefighters Local 372 and United Firefighters of Los Angeles City.
