As the mayor of Compton, I am proud of the many contributions our local cardroom makes to our city’s economy. The money generated from this local business directly impacts vital city services like addressing homelessness, senior services and implementing green energy initiatives.

Governor Gavin Newsom organized labor, community, and elected leaders across South Los Angeles to recognize Black worker contributions to the American Labor Movement on Labor Day at the headquarters of the African American Voter Registration, Education, and Participation Project (AAVREP).

Emma Sharif Elected Mayor of Compton

In a runoff election held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 Councilwoman Emma Sharif was elected Mayor of the City of Compton.  Sharif who defeated newcomer Christian Reynaga by almost 10% of the vote is replacing Mayor Aja Brown who after 8 years decided not to seek re-election.

Compton Salute to Marie Hollis Attracts Hundreds

At a recognition program on Oct. 11, nearly 300 people came out salute her love and commitment to the city and celebrate her retirement as head of Concerned Citizens after 19 years of service. The crowd included elected officials, faith leaders, business executives and residents of the community.

City of Compton Election Results

The City of Compton held its elections for District 1 and 4 for council district seats on Tuesday, June 4.

As of press-time, Michelle Chambers took home the victory winning the election, defeating incumbent Janna Zurita by a large margin of 65 percent of the votes for the District 1 seat.
