Waters Announces Over $1 Billion in Paycheck Protection Program Loans

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, released a district data sheet which summarizes Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) data provided by the Small Business Administration (SBA) regarding loans made to businesses in Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita, Los Angeles, Playa Vista, and Torrance. Over one billion dollars in PPP loans were awarded to 10,750 businesses within Congresswoman Waters’ congressional district.

Rep. Waters Amends FY 2021 Spending Bill to Fund Health Priorities and Stop Harmful Trump Administration Rules

WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives adopted six amendments offered by Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), the Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, on July 30, 2020, which successfully amended an FY 2021 spending bill to increase funding for critical health priorities – including HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, and maternal healthcare – and to prevent the implementation of harmful Trump administration rules that weaken infection control standards in nursing homes, undermine COVID-19 data collection at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and interfere with the rule of law at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in order to benefit the president politically or personally.

Ahead of the first day of oral arguments in the Supreme Court case Comcast Corp. V. National Association of African American-Owned Media (NAAOM),Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) led her colleagues in introducing a resolution that affirms the vital role that the Civil Rights Act of 1866– particularly Section 1981 of the Act – has played in prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race or ethnicity when making and enforcing business contracts. Should Comcast Corporation, the plaintiffs in the case, prevail at the Supreme Court, it will be nearly impossible for entrepreneurs, innovators, and creators of color who have been victims of racial discrimination to bring forth lawsuits and have their rights protected and enforced in a court of law.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 245,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and more than 40,000 women die from the disease.
