Junior sprinter Ryan Lacefield has the passion and perseverance to maintain the winning legacy that the Carson High School girls track and field team is known for. Her efforts would help the Colts win their 6th consecutive City Section Championship.
Tenured basketball coach Rod Palmer was starting a new chapter in his career when UCLA men’s basketball hired him as an assistant coach. This new face on the coaching staff has a background in coaching in Southern California on the high school and college level.
Senior Udochukwu Ebiriekwe has become a prominent figure at Crenshaw High School. Along with being a multi-sport athlete, he is the ASB Vice President and a member of the sports injury prevention program Team Heal.
Carson Colts sophomore Jason Bell makes the Colts frosh/soft track and field team a competitive force. His talents led him to compete and excel at the City Section championships.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Carson Colts girls track team won the City Section title on Friday. The team scored 130 points, 76 more points than second place winner Granada Hills. The Palisades boys team snapped the Dorsey Don’s three-year Championship streak. Carson reigned over the sprinting events with junior Ryan Lacefield pacing the 200m and the 400m. The Colts finished the 4x100m in first place in 48.61s and came in second in the 4x400m in 4:03.23. “We just want to continue the legacy of our previous track stars and we want to be on top just like them,”
May 9 marks the fourth consecutive year that the View Park Knights softball team reached the playoffs. This season presents a new challenge to the program as they were upgraded to division I competition. View Park finished their season with a contending 11-4 overall record and a 10-0 Coliseum League record. The Knights will face the Hamilton Yankees on Thursday in the first round of the playoffs. “It was very good but at the same time very challenging,” senior Sam Johnson said about the season. “We’re trying to get through them as best as we can.” View Park battled the
Sophomore Sydney Blevins became team captain of the Hamilton Yankees girls basketball team for this past season. Not only did she help the team during their Open division playoff run, he was with the varsity team last season to help the team win a division II City Section championship.
Rival schools Fairfax and Westchester reunited at the Open Division City Section championship for the second consecutive year. The Fairfax Lions avenged themselves from their loss last year, defeating the Westchester Comets 60-53. Fairfax was 3-0 against Westchester this season.
Crenshaw senior defensive back Jonah Edmond rises up to a challenge, whether it is solving math equations or solving the offensive schemes of opponents. With a GPA of 3.5, he had the highest GPA on the football team.
The Hamilton Yankees girl’s basketball team had a contending in-season run, propelling them from division II to Open division playoffs. Junior Kennedee Rankin is co-captain of the team, playing at the forward and center positions.
The Santee High School Falcons football team committed a 12-game winning streak when they defeated the Fremont Pathfinders 52-20 to win the Division III City Section Championship.
In a highly defensive battle, The Dorsey Dons fell short 20-22 to the San Pedro Pirates in the CIF City Section Division I Championship.
Being a quarterback for the West Los Angeles College Wildcats football team gives him skills that will help him with his football career and beyond. His leadership and decision-making skills can help him pursue his passion of being a firefighter.
