CHANGE & SAVE WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAM SERVES MORE THAN 300 FAMILIES DURING COVID-19 SHUTDOWN

In February, West Basin Municipal Water District launched Change & Save, a water conservation program designed to assist communities in West Basin’s service area that have historically lower participation rates in water conservation programs. To date, the Change & Save program has served more than 300 households in Inglewood, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Gardena, Carson, and Lennox. 

Shaun King Visits Compton and Carson on Behalf of Bernie Sanders

Supporters of 2020 Presidential candidate Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders hit the campaign trail on his behalf a day before the opening of Sanders’ South L.A. campaign office.  On Dec. 29, Brooklyn-based activist and writer Shaun King, who focuses on civil and human rights, racial justice, mass incarceration, and law enforcement misconduct, visited Pastor Michael Fisher’s Greater Zion Church family in Compton before stopping by Bishop Jawane Hilton’s City on the Hill in Carson. King was joined by civil rights attorney Lee Merritt and Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra will discuss the state’s efforts to defend environmental protections critical to residents’ health and well-being as the featured speaker of CSU Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) Presidential Distinguished Lecture Series. The lecture and panel discussion will take place Thursday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m., in CSUDH’s Loker Student Union Ballroom.       

Chargers’ Defense Steps Up in 26-10 Win Over the Raiders

The Los Angeles Chargers played its most complete all-around game through week five in their triumph over the Oakland Raiders, 26-10 at StubHub Center on Sunday. Los Angeles was anchored by a defense that held Oakland to less than 300 net yards led by quarterback Philip Rivers who threw for two touchdowns and posted 339 total yards.

LAFC Back to Winning Ways, Break Five Game Winless Streak

On Wednesday, LAFC played Real Salt Lake, a team far too close for comfort in the standings for LAFC, sitting just a point behind at the start of the game. The biggest question surrounding this game was whether the spectators could expect the LAFC of old, prone to dominate their opponents in the midfield and finishing games off with clinical precision, or the LAFC of recent weeks: a team that starts games out strong but folds somewhere in the middle and concedes goals late in the match. Luckily for LAFC fans, the former showed up ready to play, beating Real Salt Lake 2-0 with a brace from recent LAFC signee and hometown hero Christian Ramirez in his full LAFC debut.

LA County Offers $10,000 Reward in Carson Shooting

Just before 9 p.m. on June 16, a light-colored, four-door sedan stopped in front of the family’s home in the 22700 block of Island Avenue and someone inside the car opened fire. Lauvai was shot in the chest and died at St. Francis Medical Center. Another family member’s leg was grazed by a bullet.
