Michigan State Bests USC in First Round of March Madness

A streaky offense down the stretch would give the USC Trojans men’s basketball team an early exit out of March Madness. The Michigan State Spartans defeated the Trojans 72-62 in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.

USC Cruises Past Oregon State in 75-62 Victory

Freshman phenom Evan Mobley recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds in route to Southern California’s 75-62 victory over Oregon State on Thursday at the Galen Center.

Second half surge lifts USC over rival UCLA, 74-63

“I really wanted this bad. This game, being a rivalry game, and me not being from here, so I didn’t know how big it is. I’m from Chicago, but it was really important to me to get this win,” said USC senior Nick Rakocevic on the importance of beating crosstown rival UCLA. 

Trojans roll to 5-0 behind Okongwu’s career-high 33 points

USC are 5-0 for the first time since the 2017 season when the Trojans got off to a 14-0. 6’9 Freshman Onyeka Okongwu powered to the Trojans to a 91-84 victory over the Pepperdine Waves with a career-high 33 point performance, scoring more than 20 points for the third time in five games.  Okongwu lived at the free-throw line all night converting 17-of-21 at the line, which got him settled into his groove for the night. Avoiding foul trouble has been an issue for the Freshman early in the season, but he played more disciplined and showed growth against Pepperdine. 

USC defeats University of Portland 76-65 behind Okonwu’s double-double

Coming off a sensational double-double and USC record tying 8 blocks in his freshman debut, Onyeka Okongwu struggled to find his rhythm in the first half due to foul trouble in a 76-65 victory over the University of Portland at the Galen Center.  Early in the first half Onyeka Okongwu,  nicknamed “Big O”, showed his athleticism in the paint with a quick-reacting steal on the defensive end that lead to an alley-oop layup finish on the offensive end with 14:58 to go in the first half.  That would be the only Okongwu highlight of the first half as the 6’9
