Carson junior Kameryn Hurst aimed to be the best player on the field for the Colts football team and the fastest runner for the track and field team this past season.
In football, Hurst helped the Colts have a 10-2 overall record and a 3-1 Marine League record. Throughout the season, Hurst showed how he can make plays with his speed and his ability to be aggressive and observant on defense.
He also helped the boy’s 4x100m relay team place second in the City Section Finals. Their 41.65 record would qualify them for the State Championship.
For his efforts, Carson high school named Hurst Athlete of the Year.

“It means a lot because of the hard work I put in and how everybody is starting to recognize me more and more,” he said.
With 51 points, the Colts boy’s track and field team came in third in the City Section Finals.
“We don’t have that many boys but for us to come in third in City is still a big accomplishment for the amount of boys we have,” Hurst said.
Carson 4x100m relay team ultimately came in 12th at the CIF State preliminary round with a 41.86. Hurst also competed in the 4x100m relay last year, their State run motivated him for this season.
“It was a good experience, it was a good atmosphere,” he said about the 2023 State meet. “He didn’t have the right ending that we wanted but it was still a good experience overall.”
In the Marine League Finals, Hurst came in first in the 100m with a 11.02 record. He also placed first in the 200m with a 22.61 record.
As a student athlete, Hurst knows that he must prioritize his school work so he will not have to worry about his academics while he is at practice.
“It just shows that you can do more than one thing at once and being able to motivate yourself to step up to the challenge,” Hurst said about being a student athlete.
His favorite class is his Nutritional Aide class; he learned about how injuries and consumption affect the human body.
“In class, we’ll talk about injuries or how your body reacts to the things you do before and after you practice or work out,” Hurst said. “I put that into play on the football field or on the track.”
