The Los Angeles Rams hosted their second annual Flag Jamboree presented by Bridgestone. The Rams hosted over 2,500 flag football student-athletes from over 100 high schools in the Southern California region.
The Dorsey Dons used their rushing game to defeat the Crenshaw Cougars 28-3. Both teams now have a 4-3 overall record. The Dons are now 2-0 in the Coliseum League, tied at first with the King/Drew Golden Eagles.
Crenshaw senior Talita Robinson is a quarterback for the girl’s flag football team. Last season, she led the team to the Open Division City Section playoffs. In their inaugural season, the Cougars had a 17-2 overall record and 13-0 Coliseum League record.
Los Angeles High School senior Ka’yon Richardson wants to leave his mark this season. He has helped the Romans to a 2-3 overall record.
On their next possession, King/Drew endured a penalty and a sack, but Martin found a way to make a touchdown rush. With 2:01 left in the third quarter, the Eagles were ahead 21-7 over the Gladiators.
Dorsey junior Adegheosha Asoro has been playing basketball for over two years and decided to compete in track and field this past season. In track, he ran the 400m and he also began learning how to compete in the triple jump.
Carson junior Kameryn Hurst aimed to be the best player on the field for the Colts football team and the fastest runner for the track and field team this past season.
Quarterback Jayden Denegal is heading into his third season with the Michigan Wolverines.
King/Drew senior Kameron Gates plays football and basketball for the Golden Eagles. Gates will be continuing his football career at Morehouse in the fall.
The King/Drew Golden Eagles softball team defeated the Mendez Jaguars 8-6 in the first round of the CIF Division II City Section playoffs. King/Drew will play the second-seeded Marquez Gladiators on May 13 at 3:00P.M.
Crenshaw senior Jeremiah Blackmon plays basketball and football for the Cougars. He helped the football team win a Division III City Section championship in 2022. This season, the Cougars had a 11-3 overall record and led the Coliseum League with a 4-1 record.
After being interim head coach for most of the 2023 season, Vincent Jefferson will be taking the helm of the Cathedral Phantoms football team for the 2024 season. Jefferson has not only been on the coaching staff for 13 years, but he also taught at the school for 10 years.
This spring, wide receiver Cristian Dixon will be graduating from the University of Michigan. Dixon was a former Mater Dei stand out, making 35 receptions for 611 yards and six touchdowns in his junior year.
With six seconds left in regulation, the Hamilton Yankees girls’ basketball team was tied at 44 with the Santa Margarita Eagles in the second round of the CIF Division II State playoffs.
