At the 2023 World Track and Field Championships, HBCU talent was well represented. Former Johnson C. Smith University sprinter Danielle Williams competed and came out victorious for Jamaica winning the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
The West Los Angeles College (WLAC) Wildcats men’s and women’s track and field teams had a successful season. The women’s 4x400m squad won the State Title. The entire women’s team won and the men’s team came in second in the 2023 Western States Conference (WSC) Championships.
UCLA senior track and field stand-out Ismail Turner knows how to compete and study at a high level. He was recently named on the Pac-12 2023 Winter Academic Honor Roll; Turner is an economics major.
The Carson Colts track and field team concluded their season with a trip to the CIF State Championship, where they competed in sprints, mid-distance, throws and jumps.

USC will honor the achievements of 11-time Olympic medalist Allyson Felix by naming their track field after her. The L.A. native graduated from USC in 2008 with a degree in education and went on to become the most decorated American Track and Field athlete in history.

Washington Prep senior Anthony Whitsey is a multisport athlete who has competed in football, track and field, basketball, and baseball. This year marked his fourth year playing varsity football.
During his first year playing varsity, Los Angeles high school junior Shawn Pringle took on the onus of being the quarterback for the Romans. In the 10 games they played, Pringle made 60 passes for 1494 yards and 19 touchdowns.
West Los Angeles College track and field athlete Chandler Smith has been competing in sprints since an early age. At six years old, she started playing tennis but seeing her brother compete in track piqued her interest in the sport.
Carter Morgan enjoys sprinting and has the skills to compete in elite track meets. Over the summer, he was a contender in the 7-8 100m and 200m events and he also competed in the javelin throw.
The Black Lightning Track Club has been excelling on the biggest stages of track and field. This past summer, runners from the club took top spots in sprints and relays during the Junior Olympics.
