Hamilton senior Sherilynne Chensam has always loved playing basketball but competing would occasionally become overwhelming to her. When she felt her passion for basketball slipping away, she took a two-year hiatus during her freshman and sophomore years.
The Carson Colts girls track and field team continues on their reign of dominance with their win in the 2024 CIF City Section Championships. The Colts have won the City Section title for the eighth consecutive time.
King/Drew senior Kameron Gates plays football and basketball for the Golden Eagles. Gates will be continuing his football career at Morehouse in the fall.
Serra freshman Kaicia Snelson had a strong campaign for the Cavaliers girls’ basketball team, scoring 12.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Along with being a basketball player, Snelson is ASB vice president of her freshman class.
Crenshaw senior Jeremiah Blackmon plays basketball and football for the Cougars. He helped the football team win a Division III City Section championship in 2022. This season, the Cougars had a 11-3 overall record and led the Coliseum League with a 4-1 record.
Wide receiver Daijon “Wooptie” Calimon and running back Terrell “Choppa” Cooks Jr are one of the few examples of high school recruits who managed to maneuver throughout the tricky process and earn scholarship spots on Division I rosters.

USC stand-out quarterback Caleb Williams always has a mindset of giving back, especially to the Boys and Girls Club. During his final season with the Trojans, Williams partnered with Dr. Pepper to provide scholarships to high school seniors.
Washington Prep senior Freeman Hopkins always prioritizes the needs of the team, whether it be in football or basketball. He helped the Generals boy’s basketball team win the City Section Division I title and the football team reach the City Section Division III championship game.
Hamilton junior Brooklyn Harris has been excelling in both basketball and track and field. She is the reigning CIF City Section champion in the 400m and has also helped the Yankees girl’s basketball team be Open Division contenders.
Serra senior Devin Shell helped the Cavaliers go on a deep run in the CIF Division 3AA Southern Section Playoffs and reach the Division II State Playoffs. They ultimately had a 19-15 overall record and a 4-6 Del Rey League record.
The Holliday’s Helping Hands Foundation hosted their inaugural Basketball Tournament to raise funds for their organization and promote their annual scholarship.
Senior Zoie Dupree plays volleyball for the Inglewood Sentinels. She also competed for the club team the South Central Starlings. Along with sharpening her techniques in the sport, she also learned key lessons in leadership. She was a captain and the head coach of her club volleyball team.
