The Church of God in Christ Southern California First Jurisdiction’s Business and Professional Women (BPW) will Annual Day Conference on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the First BPW Headquarters, Emmanuel Church of God in Christ, 1399 E. 33rd St., in Los Angeles.

The event is an extension of BPW’s observance of the 50th anniversary of the group’s 1968 elevation to a COGIC national auxiliary.

The theme of the conference is, “Women@Work – Transitioning to New Levels of Leadership and Enterprise: Confronting the Challenges and Capitalizing on the Opportunities.” Mrs. Althea Howard, pastor of Overcomers Church of God in Christ, will introduce the theme.

Kandice McLurkin, president of the Council of Black Administrators (COBA) and an administrative coordinator with Los Angeles Unified School District, will be the keynote speaker. BPW will also honor Kimberly Lesure, principal of Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies, for the school’s outstanding achievements.

Discussions on the theme will feature several sessions and presenters including “Emerging Leaders” with Evangelist Gail Biggers, National Evangelist Sonya Simpson, District Missionary Gail Irving Dotie, Evangelist Darlene Nevels, and Evangelist Alisha Von Lewis.

“Voices of Wisdom” will feature District Missionary Margie Houston, Evangelist Kathryn Butler, Ms. Patricia Bankhead, and Dr. James Ella Dennis. Also, Financial Professional Felisha Watts will share information for a solid financial future in the “Financially Fit” segment.

Dr. Wanda Barnett Street, M.D., MPH and BPW chair, and Attorney Sheila Bankhead Grisham, co-chair, will host the event. The ticket donation is $25.
