All residents and businesses in Los Angeles County have until Oct. 15 to file their taxes and make tax payments. This extension is a result of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster declaration during the January wildfires.

Who qualifies: According to the IRS website, “Individuals and households that reside or have a business in Los Angeles County qualify for tax relief.”

How is the relief applied: The IRS automatically identifies taxpayers who reside in the affected area and will apply filing and payment relief, the site states.

Additionally, this tax relief also applies to 2024 estimated tax payment normally due on Jan. 15, 2025 as well as any estimated tax payments that would have been due on:

  • April 15
  • June 16
  • Sept. 15

The types of tax returns included in this tax relief extension are:

  • individual income tax returns
  • corporate income tax returns
  • estate and trust income tax returns
  • partnership returns
  • S corporation returns
  •  trust returns
  • estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax returns
  • annual information returns of tax-exempt organizations
  • employment and certain excise tax returns

that have either an original or extended due date occurring on or after Jan. 7, 2025, and before Oct. 15, 2025.
