West Coast’s largest family festival attracts thousands from L.A. area and beyond
He was tireless in the fight for access and respect for Black journalists and relentless in championing for Blacks to have a seat at the proverbial table.
The 2019 honorees are the Honorable Karen Bass, U.S. Representative (D-CA); the Honorable Elijah E. Cummings, U.S. Representative (D-MD); the Honorable Bobby Scott, U.S. Representative (D-VA); the Honorable Bennie Thompson, U.S. Representative (D-MS); Ray Curry, Secretary-Treasurer of the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agriculture (UAW); Shani W. Hosten, Vice President Multicultural Leadership, AARP; Dr. Kim Smith-Whitley, Clinical Director of Hematology and Director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP); and Crystal Windham, Director, Cadillac Interior Design, General Motors.
Nola Carter, was born in Shreveport, LA on April 15, 1918, where she finished high school and later migrated to Los Angeles, CA and attended Frank Wiggins College and Southwest University majoring in Business and Real Estate.
Saturday, October 20, marked 13 years of the largest street festival in Southern California and the Taste of Soul (TOS) nation still hasn’t come down from the festival high!
The # 1 festival in SoCal invites everyone to celebrate 13 years of food, entertainment and fun.
For 12 years in a row, Taste of Soul has continued to provide all things soulful and be an economic driver in the Black community because of the chairs, co-chairs, partners and sponsors who support the event and its mission.
It is a “party with a purpose” giving the community access to health resources, job opportunities, education information, economic empowerment of small businesses and highlights community collaboration.
