Young players and veterans alike are making strides during the Los Angeles Rams 2024 Training Camp. This year, Rams players are living in the dorms of Loyola Marymount University while they practice on the campus. The aim is to build chemistry off the field to enhance gameplay.

“We talked about culture is everything, schemes is only gonna take you so far,” said Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula. “The closer these guys are off the field, I think it benefits on the field as much as possible just with the communication, rooting for each other.”

The Rams recently traveled to The Bolt to scrimmage against the L.A. Chargers. Rams head coach Sean McVay noticed areas where their offense needs to improve. Members of their offensive line have been injured, forcing the reserves to step up. The Chargers forced turnovers on them.

Now in his second year, Steve Avila has been moved from guard to center. The move came during the OTAs. Since then, he has found comfort in the position.

“I’m trying to not rely too much on the quarterback and the people around me because once I have myself established, that makes for a better team,” Avila said. “Feels good knowing when something comes up in a play, knowing what to do, so that makes me feel better about myself.”

“You can see he’s got good balance at the line of scrimmage, he’s using his hands at the right time,” LaFleur said. “He’s going into his third year now, that’s sometimes when you see the turn.”

Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson came in second on the team in yards per catch with 14.3 last season. LaFleur mentioned how he has been bringing good energy to training camp.

“A lot of guys have great energy, he is so authentic,” LaFleur said. “He’s got a unique separation ability … he’s got good length but he’s got a wiggle to him, it’s a tough cover.”
