Councilman Curren Price, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Supervisor Hilda Solis Bring Hope to Hope Street With New Homeless Shelter
It was a great day to have hope in Los Angeles as Councilman Curren Price, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Supervisor Hilda Solis celebrated the completion of the first Bridge Home in District 9. Coining the term, “Bringing Hope to Hope Street,” many gathered on March 5, to support the new temporary housing unit located on 2817 S. Hope Street. This specific location will now be the twelfth to open in LA as part of the city’s homeless shelter program. The new shelter will house 100 homeless men and women from the community and help them transition into permanent supportive housing.

In celebration of Independence Day, Los Angeles City Councilman Curren Price will host a FREE, all-day family festival, culminating with a 20-minute fireworks show in Expo Park. The picnic-style event, which gets underway at 11 a.m. on the South Lawn, features games and activities for the entire family, such as face painting, a rock-climbing wall and inflatable jumpers. The holiday celebration will include contests and prizes for attendees, as well as a wide variety of culinary specialties and plenty of tasty treats available for purchase.

In an effort to build a safer and healthy community, Councilmember Curren Price welcomed 10 specifically trained LAPD officers who will be working with local residents to reduce violent crime in the South Park area in Council District 9. The new Community Safety Partnership (CSP) program launched on April 15 aims to build trust between residents and law enforcement by developing sports, recreational and other community programming.

On March 8, Tangelia was one of 15 women honored by Los Angeles City Councilmembers on International Women’s Day. She is a California native, born and raised in the Ninth District.
