After overcoming years of severe depression, Bernadette Taylor found her passion making homemade candy brittle for her family and friends. In 2015, Taylor started her business Brittle Diddle and has been successful since. Unexpectedly, tragedy struck in 2021 when her son was murdered. NXT LVL, a program powered by TecLeimert, offered their amazing expertise in showing off the 2022 Taste of Soul Family Festival. NXT LVL is a free program that provides opportunities for under resourced youth to leverage existing affinities for social media and culture, as well as develop professional skills in the creative economy. In a twelve-week program, applicants learn the basics of digital marking and other tech-related subjects, and then are paired with an industry expert to mentor them. Along with providing great food, resources and entertainment, the Taste of Soul also displayed the creativity of six local artists through their Art Walk exhibit. L.A. Good vibes and energy permeated Saturday’s, October 15, Taste of Soul event which is probably what caused the rain and clouds that filled the sky earlier that morning to disappear. The free family street festival took place on the historic Crenshaw Blvd. and attracted thousands of people from all over to enjoy food, music, performances, and much more. The event took place virtually for the past two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Bakewell Media Music Stage, aptly known as music for the soul, lived up to the hype. And this year, the stage was presented by sponsor Chevrolet.
