Delano Catherine Hadley Robinson, widow of the late Matthew “Mack” Robinson – 1936 Olympic Silver Medalist, 200 Meters, Berlin, Germany – and older brother of baseball legend, Jackie Robinson, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.
Delano, a native of Thomasville, Georgia, 8th of 15 children – was also the Homecoming Queen at Douglass High School in 1951.
She settled in Pasadena, and married Matthew “Mack” Robinson in 1955. To this union were, Wayne Robinson, Kathy Robinson Young, Betty Robinson Coleman, William Robinson, Rose Robinson & Edward Robinson.
As a longtime member of Scott United Methodist Church (Pasadena, CA), Delano also sang with the Church choir.
Socially, and alongside ‘Mack’, she enjoyed volunteering at The Arco Jesse Owens Games, and the Special Olympics Southern California. Delano attended many events which promoted the Dodgers/MLB, and Olympic Team USA.
Delano’s career was in nursing. It’s with this experience she attained, assisted her in taking care of her beloved husband “Mack”, until his death on March 12, 2000.
Delano Robinson loved her city. She represented her family on several occasions, in Pasadena’s Black History Parade!
In 2012, the Pasadena Journal recognized Delano Robinson, as one of the “Women of Achievement in Pasadena”.
She leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, family & friends – to cherish her memory!
