The Los Angeles City Council on May 28 confirmed the nomination of President Pro Tem Marqueece Harris-Dawson as the next council president.
In today’s Los Angeles City Council meeting 8th District representative Marqueece Harris-Dawson was nominated to become the new President of the Los Angeles City Council. The motion was made by 5thDistrict Councilmember Katherine Yaroslavsky and 10th District Councilwoman Heather Hutt seconded the motion.
This Saturday, April 22, the Council Office will present the 57 organizations that received funding (reallocated from law enforcement) to augment their services in Council District Eight.
The Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors have posted a combined $60,000 in reward money and the California Highway Patrol and State of California have added $50,000, for a total of $110,000, for information leading to the person or people responsible for the shooting death of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found dumped alongside the Harbor (110) Freeway.
Councilmember Harris-Dawson hosted six EMPLOYLA jobs events aimed at directly connecting local employers to prepared job-seekers over the past. In collaboration with three South Los Angeles WorkSource Centers, hundreds of residents were able to learn about resume building, networking and virtual interviewing skills.
Today, Los Angeles City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson announced the opening of the Navigation Center at 729 W. Manchester Avenue. This one-stop-shop will provide critical services to people experiencing homelessness and connect them to resources, such as employment opportunities and supportive housing. This project is funded at nearly $9
million thanks to HHH, a $1.2 billion bond issued by Councilmember Harris-Dawson and supported by millions of voters to create housing and provide services for individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness.
