On Saturday, December 19, nearly 4,000 children from South L.A. will receive gift bags at a holiday toy drive sponsored by A Place Called Home, DAUM Commercial Real Estate Services, Herbalife, the LA Galaxy Foundation, Starbucks and volunteers from each sponsoring entity. The community toy drive & distribution is expected to be the biggest in the event’s 10-year history.
LA Galaxy players will play “reindeer games” in the snow with kids and their families.
Local kids in need will receive gift bags with toys, books and clothing to bring a little extra joy this holiday season. They will also have an opportunity to share their wishes with Santa, play with LA Galaxy mascot Cozmo and climb and sled on 30 tons of snow.
To help keep families warm, Starbucks will be serving hot chocolate, coffee and holiday goodies.
“In a neighborhood where most families are focused on survival, it’s a blessing to be able to celebrate the holidays with a sense of play and abundance – especially for the children,” says Jonathan Zeichner, executive director of A Place Called Home. “We are extremely grateful to all the sponsors and donors that make this event possible – and to Santa, of course!”
A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center. Its primary goal is helping youth aged 8 to 21 years old stay in school, go on to higher education, pursue successful careers, and develop into active, contributing community members and leaders. More than 1,000 volunteers log in over 20,000 hours annually to enrich the lives of A Place Called Home members.
