Bradford honored for dedicated years of service to Gardena
On Sat., Oct. 10, lawmaker Steven Bradford was officially inducted into the Gardena Wall of Fame at Gardena City Hall. Gardena Mayor Paul Tanaka officiated the outdoor ceremony that took place on the lawn adjacent to city hall and was attended by Board of Equalization Chairman Jerome Horton and his wife Inglewood City Clerk Yvonne Horton among others. Former Gardena Mayor Donald Dear and Reverend John and Nancy Ward joined Bradford as this year’s honorees.
The first African-American elected to serve on the city’s council, Steve Bradford spent 12 years serving on the city council before being elected to the State Assembly in 2009. He is currently the frontrunner for a seat in the State Senate to represent the areas of Carson, Compton, West Compton, Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, West Carson, Watts, Willowbrook, and Wilmington.
The City of Gardena, with the assistance of the Gardena Beautification Committee, inducted the first set of Wall of Fame members in 1995 and since then has inducted 50 members. The 2015 Wall of Fame Committee members included Rich Fujio, Danial Canãs, Charlotte Lynch, Kimberly Hatten, George Castro and Loyce Holt.
