In an effort to bless others as God blessed them, Pastor Alvin Tunstill, Jr., and the members of Trinity Baptist Church united with the Los Angeles Mission to offer a range of services to people residing on the city’s skid row.
The day-long ‘Gala Affair,’ held on May 30, provided free haircuts, manicures, and foot-washing along with food, prizes and eighty $25 gift cards to more than 500 men, women and children. Also, Brian Ferguson, director of Trinity’s Homeless Ministry, performed as ‘Christian the Clown’ and the ‘Giant Man on Stilts.’
Explaining the reason behind the event, Pastor Tunstill said, “We believe in trying to help. Every person needs food and basic living essentials and that’s what we are trying to provide. We know the Lord has been good to us and we want to be good to other people.”
Ferguson, director of Trinity’s Homeless Ministry, organized the ‘Gala Affair’ and recruited volunteers to assist.
“We get more volunteers every year and we’re really proud of that. We have gotten great public support and we invite other people to volunteer because there is a lot of need,” said Pastor Tunstill.
Ferguson also shared that this event was not a one-time action. He said, “Trinity’s Homeless Ministry operates all year long. Each month, we give out food, blankets, hygiene items, backpacks, clothes, toys and water because people have needs all year-around, not just on Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
