Kaiser Permanente will serve as the main medical provider at the annual “Taste of Soul Family Festival,” set to take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, on Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles.

This family-friendly event, one of the largest street festivals in Southern California, is expected to attract more than 350,000 attendees, primarily from the African American community.

Kaiser Permanente West L.A. and Baldwin Hills – Crenshaw are proud to support the Taste of Soul Festival, said Dr. Diana Friend, Ob/Gyn, West Los Angeles Medical Center.

We’re honored to be part of the vibrant South L.A. community, working together to improve health outcomes and empower individuals to take control of their well-being,” Dr. Friend said. “This event is not just a celebration of Black culture and diversity – it’s an opportunity to connect, have fun and share valuable knowledge so that everyone can be a champion for their own health. Let’s enjoy the festivities, support each other and continue building a healthier, stronger community together.”

As part of its role, Kaiser Permanente will offer attendees a range of free onsite health services to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

These services include:

  • Blood pressure screenings.
  • Flu shots.
  • First aid station for immediate medical needs.
  • Health and wellness resources.
  • Massages.
  • Membership services and Senior Advantage information.
  • Games and prizes.

Kaiser Permanente will also have representatives available throughout the day to discuss the importance of health care access, community well-being and the organization’s long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion.

“Our Kaiser Permanente commitment to the Baldwin Hills – Crenshaw community goes beyond our clinics and hospitals,” said Dr. La Tanya R. Hines, Ob/Gyn, West Los Angeles Medical Center. “Being a part of ‘The Taste of Soul’ is a perfect opportunity for our physicians and staff to promote the historical heritage of South Los Angeles, while representing the richness of health, wellness and unity. At Kaiser Permanente, we’re proud to serve our community. ”

For Kaiser Permanente, this year’s participation in the “Taste of Soul Family Festival” is especially meaningful as it marks the 50th anniversary of West Los Angeles Medical Center. The hospital is commemorating five decades of service to our members.
