“The evening brought together an inspiring assembly of birth equity leaders, advocates, and partners to celebrate and advance our collective mission of Black birth justice across California,” said a spokesperson.
According to the organizers, the Birth Justice & Joy event spotlighted the Coalition’s theme, which is “Unifying the Vision for Systemic Change.” The program featured experts discussing racial inequities in perinatal outcomes for Black birthing families. Attendees also enjoyed refreshment, live music and networking opportunities.
Participants included LaQuisha Bryant from the office of Assemblymember Tina McKinnor, Tara Ficek of First 5 Los Angeles, Nomsa Khalfani of Essential Access Health, Tara Westman of the California Endowment, Janette Robinson-Flint of Black Women for Wellness, and Dr. Melissa Franklin from the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
“Their participation underscored the event’s significance and the broad support for the mission to drive systemic change and improve perinatal outcomes for Black families in California,” added a spokesperson.
