Second AME was founded in 1908 and for more than 80 years, the church has been in the Vermont-Slauson corridor serving a diverse and multi-cultural community through ministry programs. A church member reflected, “What a blessing it is to exist as a station of faith, hope, justice and love for more than a century.”
Another congregant said, “This journey of faith reflects God’s hand of grace and mercy upon those who are faithful to the body of Christ.”
Among those who worshipped at Second AME and later entered into ministry are retired Bishop Carolyn Tyler Guidry, her son, the Rev. Dr. Timothy E. Tyler, who is the pastor of Shorter Community AME Church in Denver, Colorado, and the Rev. Kirkpatrick Tyler, pastor of Parks Chapel AME Church in San Fernando, California.
The community is invited to attend the service, which will be held in the sanctuary located at 5500 S. Hoover Street, Los Angeles.
