Second African Methodist Episcopal Church of Los Angeles, led by Pastor Marvin McKenzie, will hold their 116th Anniversary worship service on Sunday, August 11, at 11 a.m.

Scripture: Matthew 26:36-46 We have discovered while traveling on this faith journey as members of God’s family, we must practice prayer. As we run this race with Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, we must be in constant communication with the Lord. We have also learned that prayer is a communicative process involving one individual talking to God or the corporate body/Congregation talking to God. The Lay Organization of Second AME Church will hold their Annual Day service on Sunday, October 8, at 10 a.m., in the edifice located at 5500 S. Hoover St., in Los Angeles. According to Pastor Carolyn Baskin-Bell, the theme is “Laypersons Called To Serve.” Inviting the public to attend, she said, “Please join us in recognizing the outstanding efforts of Second AME’s Lay Organization.” The guest speaker is Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker, director of Lay Activities for the Southern California Conference Lay Organization. Following God’s Move Opens Doors for Pastor Baskin-Bell

Being open to the move of God works well for the Rev. Carolyn Baskin-Bell and has led to great experiences throughout her ministry. As the pastor of Second African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles, she serves as the first female spiritual leader in the congregation’s 108-year history. Bishop Theodore Larry Kirkland, presiding prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District of the AME Church, made the significant appointment in October 2015. Her assignment is just one of many memorable moments since she accepted the call to preach in 1996. Ordained an itinerant deacon in 1999 and an itinerant elder in 2001,
