The 133rd Annual Session of the Western Baptist State Convention of California begins on Saturday, August 5, and continues through Thursday, August 10, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, located at 2283 North Fair Oaks Avenue in Altadena, announced President J. Benjamin Hardwick and the WBSC Executive Board.

Dr. Tyrone L. Skinner is the host pastor.  The theme is “Our Convention Moving Forward with Prayer in Unprecedented Times,” based on Galatians 5:16-17.

The Young People’s Department, directed by Sister Stacy Rivens, will meet on Saturday, August 5, at 9:30 am.  On Sunday, August 6, at 4 p.m., the 133rd Annual Session Mass Musical takes place featuring gospel artist Kathy Taylor.

On Monday, August 7, the Prayer Revival takes place at 6 p.m.  The Annual Session officially opens on Tuesday, August 8, at 9 a.m., and Dr. Michael Owens of New Hope Baptist Church, San Bernardino will preach at noon. At 7 p.m., the Ushers Session will be led by President Carolyn Chapman.  Dr. R. A. Williams of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church will preach.

The Laymen Session under President Calvin Armstrong will be held on Wednesday, August 9.  Dr. John Ringgold of Bethel Baptist Church, San Diego, will speak at noon. The Pastors and Ministers Conference will be facilitated by Executive Secretary Rev. Douglas Nelson at 2 p.m., and Dr. Virgil V. Jones of Calvary Baptist Church, Los Angeles will deliver the message at 7 p.m.

President LaRonda Nelson and the Women’s Department will present Life Members of the Western Baptist State Convention during their session on Thursday, August 10, at 9 a.m. At noon, the speaker is Pastor Jasper Williams, Jr., pastor emeritus of Salem Bible Church. The Pastors and Ministers’ Wives J. Benjamin Hardwick Scholarship Luncheon will follow the Women’s Department Session.  The closing ceremony will begin at 4 p.m.

“It will be an honor for each of you to join us for a national, state, and district proclamation of God’s profound word, the finest in worship, singing, and praise, and a range of events designed to meet the needs of all age groups,” said Dr. Hardwick.
