Members of the Western Baptist State Convention of California will hold their 134th Annual Session starting Saturday, August 3, and continuing through Thursday, August 8.
According to WBSC President J. Benjamin Hardwick, the session will take place in the Southwest District Association at Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church in San Diego. The Rev. Joe Conner is the host moderator and the Rev. Donnell Townsend is the host pastor.
“We extend a personal invitation to the entire Christian community to join us,” said Dr. Hardwick. “Our theme is “Being Led by The Holy Spirit – To Teach and Preach – In These Lawless Times” based on Matthew 10:16-20.

The Young People’s Department will meet on Saturday, August 3, at 10 a.m. On Monday, August 5, at 6 p.m., Bishop Dexter Kilpatrick, dean of Prayer, and Southwest District Pastors will “Walk in the Spirit” during prayer and praise. At 7 p.m., the 134th Annual Session Musical will be held featuring the Southwest District Association Mass Choir.
The session officially opens on Tuesday, August 6, with a business session at 9 a.m. The Rev. Gregory Brown, pastor of Second Baptist Church-El Centro, will bring the message at noon. Dr. Manuel Scott, Jr., will facilitate the Evangelism Session at 3:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., the Rev. Harold Johnson of Harmony Baptist Church-Los Angeles, will bring the message at the Usher’s Session headed by Carolyn Chapman.
On Wednesday, August 7, at 12 noon, the Laymen’s Session, led by Deacon Calvin Armstrong, will feature a message by the Rev. Reginald Payne of Full Gospel Church of L.A.
President Hardwick will preside over a special Congress of Christian Education Conference at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Terry Brooks of Bayview B. C., San Diego will deliver the message at 7 p.m.
President LaRonda Nelson and the Women’s Department will host a panel presentation on “Christian Women with a Heart to Serve,” based on 1 Peter 4:10-11, during their session on Thursday, August 8, at 9 a.m.
At noon, the Western Baptist State Convention will celebrate President’s Day. Dr. R. A. Williams will bring the message. The Pastors and Minister’s Wives Luncheon and Fashion Show Extravaganza will begin immediately after the President’s Day Celebration. The 134th Annual Session Closing Ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m.
“It will be an honor for each of you to join us for a state collaboration of speakers preaching God’s profound word, the finest in worship, singing, and praise, and a range of events designed to meet the needs of all age groups,” added Dr. Hardwick.
