On Wednesday July 5th, the LA Sparks played the Atlanta Dream at Crypto.com Arena. With dedication to supporting the community, the Sparks hosted Hometown Heroes Night, recognizing the community’s most honorable active-duty military, army, veterans and first responders that are the backbone of our city.
Throughout the game, the Sparks recognized the many men and women that support our community, with a special dedication during halftime to the Hometown Hero honorees.
Nurses, firemen, police men and women, and army veterans were presented with a gift from the Sparks, and got to participate in some fan fun on the court participating in dunk challenges and bucket contests.

Some of the honorees included Major Brenda Threatt of the United States Army, who now serves as an Assistant Director of Veteran Services at El Camino College and has dedicated much of her career supporting veterans, where much of her success went to housing homeless veterans.
Representing the LAPD were Detective Shronda Morris, a part of the LASPD Investigative Service Division and Sergeant Thomas Langston, part of the LASPD field Service and Recruitment Division where they have both dedicated numerous years to protecting the Los Angeles community.
From the United States Army was Dennis Tucker, and Sergeant Major Charles Cook Jr. Of the United States Marine Corps who is now retired.
While the Sparks suffered a loss to the Atlanta Dream this night, the team still had their own wins with Nneka Ogwumike with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Azura Stevens with 16 points and 12 rebounds, along with Jordin Canada and Zia Cooke adding to the teams numbers with their 24 points together.
The Sparks next game will be against the Minnesota Lynx in Minneapolis Thursday July 20th, at 5pm.
