New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church will observe the 9th Pastoral Anniversary and Birthday Celebration of Pastor Sonja R. Dawson with two dynamic worship services.
The Pre-Anniversary Celebration will be Wednesday, January 22, at 7 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Michael Fisher, senior pastor of Greater Zion Church Family in Compton will be the guest preacher. Also, Elder William E. Johnson III of Lighthouse Church of Houston will be the guest psalmist.
On Sunday, January 26, at 7:30 a.m., the Rev. Lance Riley, senior pastor of The Neighborhood Church of Long Beach will preach. At 10:45 a.m., Evangelist Franchesca White, associate minister of Holy Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, will bring the message.
A concert will highlight the Grand Anniversary and Birthday Celebration at 3:30 p.m. The participants include the NMC Mass Choir, Praise Dance Ministry, Elder William Johnson, Bishop Sherman Gordon, Family of Faith Christian Center, Dr. Doretha Cooper, OMNI Ministries, and other civic and community leaders.
Known for her prolific preaching and teaching ministry, Dawson is a sought-after speaker, both locally and nationally, for conferences, workshops, revivals, and seminars. In addition, she has led New Mt. Calvary’s expansive growth in membership, ministries, technology, community development, and international missionary work in Belize and Haiti.
Also, Dr. Dawson is the founding director of Sisters in Ministry Inc., a philanthropic para-church organization that provides ministerial coaching and development to women in ministry. She recently retired as a Los Angeles deputy city attorney and in that capacity, received numerous awards and commendations for her groundbreaking work in the areas of human trafficking and prostitution diversion.
