Gloria Walker Taylor, a lifelong Angeleno, passed away on December 1, 2019. A resident of Leimert Park, Gloria was a faithful member of Guidance Church of Religious Science for more than 50 years.
Her viewing will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, December 20, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Angeles Funeral Home. Also on Friday at 7 p.m., Delta Sigma Theta will hold their Omega Omega Service in the Angelus chapel.
Her celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m., at Founders Church, located at 3281 W. 6th St., in Los Angeles. The interment will be at Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 East Florence Ave, Sanctuary of Radiance (Manchester Side) at 3 p.m.
Gloria was educated in the Los Angeles Unified School District and graduated from Jefferson High School. Gloria went on to complete her education at Los Angeles City College and Cal State Los Angeles where she received her Bachelor’s degree in physical education.
Her professional career began as a college student interning at Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Department. Gloria dedicated her life to making other people’s lives better, whether on “her” park, Fred Roberts Park where she single-handedly led a team of professionals, children and community neighbors to become of the most accomplished, recognized and successful parks in the city.
According to her family, Gloria’s many life and love accomplishments truly speak for themselves – accomplished scholar, exceptional student, award-winning athlete, consummate professional, successful entrepreneur, real estate investor, philanthropist, political activist, community activist, board member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority sister, loving grandmother and extraordinary mother.
She leaves to carry on her legacy, her sons, Darryl (Tina) Taylor and Ronald (Sintelle) Taylor, and grandsons, Ronald II and Isiah.
