“Today’s vote is a betrayal of the Senate’s constitutional duty to advise and consent. The Urban League Movement opposed this nomination because of his extremist positions on civil rights, workers rights, and social justice. A complete vetting of his background was impeded by the White House, which withheld the vast majority of pertinent records. The FBI investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct was a naked sham. And Kavanaugh’s abhorrent behavior throughout his confirmation proceedings revealed his true partisan agenda and open hostility toward those who disagree. We are dismayed the United States Senate would violate its sworn responsibility, instead acting as a rubber stamp for a compromised president who may soon face judgement by the very same justice. We look to the court as a whole now to act as a moderating influence on this extreme and divisive appointment.”
