Grammy-nominated artist Bishop J. Cortez Vaughn will be the guest preacher on Sunday, January 21, at 10:30 a.m., at the 111th church anniversary service of Phillips Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church, 971 E. 43rd St., in Los Angeles.
The public is invited to attend and join the celebration. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service.
“For 111 years, Phillips Temple has been a beacon of light and hope in Los Angeles and this community. We celebrate an important legacy of service and positive contributions in this community,” said Pastor Bernard M. Jackson.
“We are especially pleased to welcome Bishop Vaughn of Kansas City to our pulpit. His recording of ‘You Deserve It’ not only has changed his life, but thousands others,” added Jackson. “The lyrics to his song – ‘My hallelujah belongs to you, All of the glory belongs to you’ – are key in the praise and worship experience at Phillips.”
Long known as “The People’s Church,” Phillips Temple continues to draw people to Jesus Christ by helping them discover God’s purpose for their lives and providing service to the community. Since its founding in 1907, 17 pastors have served with three elected as bishop in the CME Church.
