From the red carpet to the many event activities, this annual Friends of Fuller Strikefest was the place to be. Guests enjoyed a Mashtini bar with creole shrimp topping, salmon, tri-tip and an abundance of options for all diets. A bowling competition took off with many celebrities competing including Thelma Houston, Mary Wilson, Freda Payne and Motown founder, Berry Gordy.
Former Congresswoman Diane Watson spoke on stage about the great work of the event producers, Iris Gordy and Karla Gordy Bristol. They presented a plaque to the Honoree, “My Friends House Foundation”, an organization that supports and changes the lives of homeless on skid row, and a check presentation is scheduled. The DJ kept Motown sounds and current hits playing as the guests enjoyed a family type atmosphere with entertainment peers.
To a rousing audience, the concert featured “Sizzling Songbirds of Motown”, Thelma Houston, Mary Wilson (Original Supremes) and Freda Payne and Scherrie Payne (Later Supremes) and Bonnie Pointer joined them in the finale. Many Motown alumni and industry guests were in the building, including A&R man, Mickey Stevenson, Former Temptations, Louis Price and Cornelius Grant, “Grey’s Anatomy” star, Jim Pickens, Jr., and singer Eric Benet.
